When we built our house, we had one area where we splurged, because we knew it would be worth it.
That area was our screened-in porch. It’s only May, but it’s already been the most heavenly addition to our home. We love being outside, but we knew that inconsistent weather and mosquitoes are two things that could limit us, so we added this space and it’s become our favorite place to be.
Until now, we’ve had dirt piles towering in our backyard, and our concrete patio hadn’t been poured. But the dirt is gone and patio has been poured, so I took a few photos on an evening when we had some really pretty light!
I’ll share a little bit about how it came together and where I found most things!
For our porch, I wanted our Indoor and outdoor spaces to be seamlessly blended. I spent a lot of time researching color palettes and hues, and how to add texture and greenery while still keeping the style I loved. Our porch is located off of our dining space, and when you look outside from our kitchen, it really does look like an extension of our home. Not only does the porch make our living space feel much bigger, it’s just a visually appealing piece, overall.
Since we all know how crazy I am about good light, getting the perfect ambiance was really high on my priority list. I added dreamy, low light with oversized lanterns & flameless flickering candles from Pottery Barn – it’s pretty amazing at golden hour!
I added a neutral, durable outdoor rug to ground the space. Wesley loves it 🙂
The porch has organic hues, sink-in pillows and natural textures. I love these pillows (striped and Natural) and and put them on both loveseats for added comfort! They’re also weather resistant so I never have to worry about moving them.
The furniture is all from World Market and it was really affordable… well, as affordable as good outdoor furniture gets! It’s made of eucalyptus so I also bought a protectant so it stays looking new.
Our concrete patio was poured, but the grass hasn’t grown yet so I’m not showing too much of the dirt 🙂 I’m also waiting on our dining table and will share more of this space once that’s here. Eventually, it will be the perfect place to kick up our feet after work, or host an alfresco dinner.
For now, you can see a little bit of the concrete bump out we added for the circular fireplace. I wanted this area to look a little more custom than just one large rectangle. We also made it as big as we could for our backyard to give us as much usable space as possible.
The Adirondack chairs are also from World Market. They’re a little bit narrower than other chairs like this, but they’re sturdy and MUCH cheaper than others I’ve seen.
The fireplace runs on liquid propane, so while we don’t get the crackle & intense heat of a wood fire, it burns cleaner and it’s way easier to turn on and off. It’s great if we want to sit out there for just a little bit and not have to deal with the mess of logs. It’s sold out from Target, but HERE is a similar one.
This space is perfect for a calm morning with a cup of coffee & a good book, or a tall pour of my favorite Malbec at sunset.
