I am the absolute worst at keeping secrets. As soon as I know something fun, positive, or exciting I HAVE to talk about it with someone! So keeping this secret has been a CHALLENGE for me! And it hasn’t even been that long šŸ™‚

I’ve probably dreamed about this for at least a decade. I am so passionate about homes, home decor, etc. so building a home of our own that I can make design decisions on is so exciting for me. It was truly the only direction I wanted to go in the home buying process. Could I have found a pre-built house that I was happy with? Sure! But we decided to wait and build instead.

Apartment living has it’s advantages, but we are SO OVER IT and ready to have a home of our own. Not just for us, but also for Wesley. I’d be lying if I said we weren’t putting a good amount of thought (and money, ugh!) into how we can make this home perfect for us AND our dog. A fence was a must-have. I’m also thinking about other spaces and making sure they’re going to work for him, like putting carpet on the stairs so he doesn’t slip, using a luxury vinyl flooring on the main floor so it stays clean/accident free, and choosing a lot with almost no elevation (it’s basically flat all the way around) so we can just open the back door and let him out instead of him having to go up and down a big flight of stairs. We’re also adding a nice screened in porch to our back year, which is one of the things I’m MOST excited about! It’s almost a must-have for us in Wisconsin so we can enjoy being outside more and not worry about rain or mosquitoes!

And last but not least, I’ll only be ONE hour from my family! We’re moving to Sun Prairie (the very East side of it) so we’ll be close to Madison and also still able to easily get to Milwaukee! Finding the right spot was a HUGE priority for us. I actually thought it would be harder because we had so many things on our list that had to be met… 1) Close enough to Milwaukee 2) A reasonable distance from both of our families 3) A suburb and neighborhood that we loved. Although I wish our lot was bigger (we’ll always wish that until we’re in the country with lots of privacy) the spot we found feels perfect and we’re pumped about that. Being closer to my family has been on my wish list for a long time. I’ve lived two hours away from them since I was 17 years old. I could never really just pop over to my parents’ or sibling’s house because of that, but this changes things and my heart is so full. Not only that, but I’ll also be able to serve the Madison area much easier now! Win!

You can definitely expect to see updates as we go through the building process! Our builder is Veridian Homes and I already can’t wait to show you how everything progresses! For now, we’re just enjoying this fun stage.
